MIDA Biotech is currently looking for a laboratory technician to staff our Stem Cell Innovation Laboratory (SCIL). The lab is located in Leiden Bioscience Park (LBSP), the largest Life Sciences and Health cluster in the Netherlands and one of Europe's leading innovation hubs. The person joining the lab will be a part of a small, dedicated and international team currently focused on the development and testing of manufacturing solutions for automated, high-throughput autologous induced pluripotent stem cells using microfluidics and machine learning.

Key responsibilities:

The laboratory technician will be responsible for the ongoing operation of the stem cell innovation laboratory. Specific tasks include:

  • Cell culture
  • Differentiation and reprogramming of pluripotent stem cells
  • Design, run and analyze stem cell-based experiments
  • Carry out molecular biology and biochemical assays
  • Creation and registration of cell banks and stocks
  • Conduct training and introduction of the stem cell platform to new employees or interns.
  • Control over inventory and ordering processes

Required skills:

  • An HLO diploma in Biology and Medical Laboratory Research or Biochemistry or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-year experience with advanced cell culture and molecular biology techniques
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Human induced pluripotent stem cell differentiation and/or culturing of stem cells
    • Cell imaging (including immunohistochemistry, microscopy and image analysis)
    • Flow cytometry and/or next generation sequencing and library preparation
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Being available for rotation duties on weekends
  • A team player who likes working in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and with a can-do attitude
  • The working language is English and, therefore, good English skills are required

Preferred skills (optional):

  • Experience with single-cell RNA sequencing technologies and analysis.
  • Expertise in neurobiology (e.g., neuronal cell culture)
  • Expertise and hands-on experience in microfluidics
  • Good programming skills (e.g., R, Python)
  • Work experience in GMP facility and/or expertise in cleanroom operations

The lab is located in Leiden Bioscience Park (LBSP), the largest Life Sciences and Health cluster in the Netherlands and one of Europe's leading innovation hubs. The person joining the lab will be a part of a small, dedicated and international team currently focused on the development and testing of manufacturing solutions for automated, high-throughput autologous induced pluripotent stem cells using microfluidics and machine learning.

Key responsibilities:

The iPSC Research specialist will contribute to the development of automated solutions for high throughput autologous iPSC manufacturing and differentiation assays within the stem cell innovation laboratory. Specific tasks include:

  • iPSC cultures
  • Reprogramming of fibroblasts and PBMCs
  • Differentiation of pluripotent stem cells
  • Design, execution and analysis of stem cell-based experiments
  • Carrying out molecular biology and biochemical assays.

Required skills:

  • A Master’s degree (MSc) in stem cell biology, developmental biology, biochemistry or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-year experience with advanced stem cell culture and molecular biology techniques in industry or academia
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • Cellular reprogramming
    • Human induced pluripotent stem cell and/or human embryonic stem cell differentiation towards different lineages
    • Cell imaging (including immunohistochemistry, microscopy and image analysis)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Being available for rotation duties on weekends
  • A team player who likes working in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and with a can-do attitude
  • The working language is English and, therefore, good English skills are required
